Joe Lukac returned to the Borough Council today, beginning his term with a passage from Thomas Paine's Common Sense: "...that the elected might never form to themselves an interest separate from the electors [...] because as the elected might by that means return and mix again with the general body of the electors [...] their fidelity to the public will be secured by the prudent reflection of not making a rod for themselves." Watch his speech here.

Lukac won a hard-fought 6-way race, defeating a Democrat and two "Failing For Manville Party" candidates. He was sworn in by former Somerset County Republican Organization Chairman Tim Howes. He later commented on Facebook, "This morning, I was sworn in as your Councilman. Thank you Manville for placing your faith and trust in me to represent you and to bring your concerns and voice to the governing body. Let’s get to work and make Manville great again!"
